Pictures and Poems

This is not AI. You're welcome.

A coffee cup and saucer with Persian designs on a wood table.

I have something different for you today. No old stories. No commentary on current events. Just a few short poems and some photos. As I promised about this blog, it is your refuge from the AI-generated infinite doomscroll – people took these pictures and I wrote the poems, for better or worse. Enjoy!

A picture of a coffee cup with a poem written inside: "Fresh coffee, ah, yes. Turn up the volume of the ringing in my ears."
Picture of the inside of a destroyer captain's cabin with a poem overlaid: "The ship, she listens and she speaks, but in whispers. Captain's cabin, night."
A closeup picture of a toy mouse wearing a captain's uniform on the bridge of a destroyer with a poem overlaid: "Did the Navy give me "bias for action," or just more neuroses?
A small ship on the horizon under clouds breaking up at sunrise with a poem: "Bright sun, rolling seas, 'cross the decks a gentle breeze. A sailor, sleeping."
A closeup of a bright red flower, with a poem: "Light and delicate, but not at all shy, are you? Crimson bloom in spring."

A stand of trees in a graveyard at sunrise with a poem: "When I die, say goodbye and plant a tree on top of me. The roots will hold me in the cold and make me fit as part of it. So then once again may I breathe the air and touch the sky."
